Soup is a light and easy meal to make when one doesn’t feel like cooking; it can be made into different varieties whether one is on a diet or not. When on a low sodium diet, preparing low sodium soup recipes can be challenge when it comes to retaining the flavor of the soup that contains little to no salt at all. Soup without salt is usually tasteless and mild but one can change these by cooking using different techniques.

Some of the low sodium soup recipes include broccoli cheese and noodles soup, buffalo chicken wing soup, garlic spiked broccoli with cranberries soup, apricot chicken soup, teriyaki salmon with mushroom soup, lemon and potato soup, chilled cantaloupe and peach soup, cabbage and blackberry soup, carrot leek soup, chicken barley soup, chilled berry and melon soup amongst others.

Most of these soups are made of fruits and vegetables which are easy to make because most of them do not necessarily need salt if their main component is sugar. The other types of soups should always be made from flavorful and fresh ingredients because when fresh, they are usually at their highest peak in quality instead of leftovers which are usually flavorless when cooked again.

Investing in other flavorful seasonings is another great idea in making the low sodium soup recipes flavorful; freshly ground pepper is a great boost when cooking or adding it on top of the cooked soup. Fresh minced parsley is also another seasoning that can be used to both decorate the food and boost the flavor; the freshness and brightness of the soup illuminates the flavor of the soup by just looking at it.

Fresh lemons are also used to elude the taste of salt in the soup without turning the soup to a lemon soup recipe; one should just add some drops of lemon juice to the soup and taste until the flavor is right. If all these seasonings are not interesting, one can try using salt substitutes in the low sodium soup recipes; the salt substitute should not contain potassium chloride because it gives a metallic taste that changes the taste and flavor of the soup entirely.

For people who don’t have the time to make these low sodium soup recipes, canned soups are another option but when purchasing them one must read the labels to determine the sodium content in the soup, no more than 150 mg of sodium should be contained in the soup per serving. The soups should be healthy, organic, or natural and should include all the necessary nutrients with the exception of salt.

Most of these low sodium canned soups might be bland but one can add chicken or beef broth to induce the flavor without adding the sodium content. Cream can also be added to the soup to change the taste and enhance the look of the soup thus making it look both delicious and flavorful.
